Three members of the tourist police have been taken back after a nurse (brother) of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical was beaten up inside the hospital.
The accused brothers were beaten up by the accused policemen at around 12:15 pm on Wednesday (March 9). He was on duty at the hospital’s emergency department counter.
Senior staff nurse (brother) Saiful Islam, who was undergoing treatment on the second floor of the hospital, complained that around 12:15 pm, 7-8 people came to the hospital’s emergency department with an injured person. They want an entry ticket with their tourist police identification. The policemen accompanying them got agitated when they wanted to know the names of the injured to complete the admission process. At one point he broke the door and entered the counter and was beaten up.
Inspector Salauddin Mamoon is undergoing treatment at the Surgery-1 unit located on the fourth floor of the hospital at the Barisal regional office of the injured tourist police. He told that he was returning home on Wednesday night after participating in a cultural program organized at Police Lines on the occasion of the annual sports competition. He lost consciousness on the spot after being seriously injured by an ambulance in the Ruptali area of the city. He regained consciousness during treatment in the hospital late at night. He said that he did not know anything about the attack on the nurse.
Meanwhile, the nurses took him to the room of the hospital’s director AHM Saiful Islam, demanding justice for the attack. Assistant Director of the Hospital. MD Moniruzzaman said two-thirds of the nurses on duty in the hospital had gathered at the director’s office. The rest have done regular duty. All returned to work after police and hospital administration assured justice to those involved.
“We have collected CCTV footage of the incident from the hospital authorities,” Barisal Tourist Police Regional Superintendent of Police Rezaul Karim said at the time. Departmental action will be taken against those who identify after seeing the footage involved in the incident.
