Delhi Schools Will Reopen From February 7 for Grades 9-12

The Delhi government has decided to reopen schools for grades 9-12 from February 7th.

At the last DDMA meeting, the Delhi government recommended the reopening of schools, saying it was necessary to prevent further damage to the social and economic well-being of children as the situation of COVID-19 in the capital improved. Claiming that online education can never replace classroom studies, Deputy Minister Manish Sisodia said the government has closed schools when it is not safe for children, but “excessive caution” harms them.

A delegation of parents led by Chandrakant Lahariya, an epidemiologist and public policy specialist, had earlier met with Sisodia and presented a memorandum signed by more than 1,600 parents demanding that schools be reopened. RC Jain, chairman of the Delhi State Public Schools Administrative Association, said, “It is high time the DDMA decided to reopen schools. There is enough scientific evidence to indicate that it is safe to reopen schools. Even the World Bank said there was no logic behind keep the schools closed longer. ” The National Progressive Schools Conference (NPSC), a body of private schools, earlier this week raised the issue of learning losses suffered by children in a letter to Lt. Gov. Anil Baijal.
